sabrHello, Equidae! Your benevolent tyrant SabR here, with the guidelines for this community, which have been built off of the guidelines of your Livejournal counterpart, Equestrian.
Anyone who violates these rules will receive a warning from a moderator, and appropriate actions up to and including termination from the community will be taken.
Community Rules & Guidelines
Regarding Images:
While we love viewing images of you & your lovelies, we have developed the following guidelines to respect the circles and journals of our members.
i. You may post 1 image before an LJ-cut, provided that it's 800 pixels (or less) wide. If it alters the scrolling action of our layout or member circles, it needs to be resized.
ii. If you have more than 1 picture to share, then the 2nd photo (and any additional photos) goes under a cut, no exceptions. Any posts violating this rule will be warned, and if not edited in a timely fashion, removed by a maintainer.
iii. Please give some background or provide the story to go along with your photos. Posts which tell a story or at least have captions are much more engaging (and welcome) than those without.
iv. Stolen images are not permitted. If you use someone else's image, cite the source and credit them. If you are caught using stolen images and passing them off as your own, you'll be warned and removed, as necessary. At least two of your moderators are equine photographers, so disregard of this rule will not be tolerated.
Post Content, Quality & Length:
i. If your post is more than a few paragraphs long (250 words) please cut it appropriately. Post a summary outside the cut, and the details within, so that your fellow members will know wether or not they would like to view the remaining text.
ii. Equestria strives to be a go-to community for entertainment, finding answers, and connecting with other horse people. While we all appreciate important milestone posts about you and your horse, it is important to remember that this is not your personal horse journal. Cross-posting (x-posting) from your personal journal is fine on occasion, but please consider your audience. Day-to-day updates should be posted in your own journal, not to the community at large.
iii. We do not charge per character, and therefor, do not wish to be treated like your cell phone. Please use educationally proper grammar. On that same note, there are to be no grammar police here - we all make mistakes, and perpetual violations will be handled by the mod team.
Tags & Subjects:
Please use appropriate subjects for your post, and tag within our tagging system as much as possible. We know the system is new, but we’re building it as fast as we can, with as much help from you as we can garner. So please, tag your posts.
We also require that you include a short, descriptive subject line (ie: "bitless bridle question", "winter riding woes", "best horse shampoo?", etc) for every post to help with sorting through the tagged entries. We, as maintainers, can edit and apply tags, but only you can edit content, so remember to include a subject line every time.
By adhering to these rules, you improve the quality and accessibility of our community.
Search before you post.
Duplicate posts will be removed when necessary. Please use the tagging and searching feature to your advantage.
Rudeness, Trolls & Flamewars:
Rudeness will be not tolerated here. You are welcome to discuss, even to disagree, but make your points (as tactfully as possible) and agree to disagree. We all love a little bit of drama, but this is not the place for that.
If someone asks that no critique be given of photos they post - whether it's about their position, lack of a helmet, etc - please don’t then comment with a list of 10 things they need to work on.
If you decide that you don’t like the atmosphere in the community, you are welcome to leave - QUIETLY. Posting a “Goodbye, Cruel world” flounce-entry serves no purpose than to further fan flames. If you post a flounce-entry, it will be deleted (unless we’re all having a laugh at you.)
Deleting and editing your post:
Once you have posted an entry, you may not significantly edit its content, and thus alter the significance of the comments posted. You may edit for grammar, typos, or to add further information, but please provide this information in the post (edited: to fix typos!)
Deleting your post, individual comments, or entire comment strings will not be tolerated. It is immature and disrespectful to those who took the time to reply to you. Sometimes threads can be hundreds of comments long, and they're suddenly gone. This is so wasteful - even if you don't like what was said, the post may have served to warn someone else against raising the same topic (ie: slaughter).
If you delete a post without a valid reason (valid reasons might include: posting to the wrong community, or finding the answer to a question yourself, before anyone replied), you will be warned by a moderator. Do it a second time, and you will be removed from the community.
Sales Ads:
We do not tolerate sales or lease ads in this community.
Tyranny:
This is not a democracy. The mods run the show around here, ultimately by tenure, but we do it for your love and support. If you don’t like the way that something is, let us know! We’ll do our best to keep the community at large in mind and make changes as we feel they need to be made.
If you do receive a comment from a moderator, indicating an infraction of a rule or guideline, do not take it personally! We are just trying to help, and it is not a reflection of how we feel about you personally. It's just a friendly heads-up. Don't be offended, and don't feel the need to apologize.
